Church Committees

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of the officers of the congregation and the Pastor. The Executive Committee prepares the annual budget and presents it to the Congregation Council for tentative approval prior to presenting it to the congregation for approval at the Congregational Meeting for budget approval.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee consists of six voting members of the congregation, two of whom, if possible, are outgoing members of the Congregation Council. The members are elected at the second semi-annual meeting for a term of one year. The Nominating Committee nominates the slate for: (a) Congregational Officers, (b) Council members, (c) Synod Assembly Delegates, and (d) Nominating Committee.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee consists of four voting members elected by the Congregation Council. Audit Committee members shall not be members of the Executive Committee. Term of office shall be two years, with two members elected each year. The Audit Committee audits the books of the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary and other accounts as directed by the Congregation Council.

Mutual Ministry Committee

The Mutual Ministry Committee consists of six voting members appointed jointly by the

Council President and the Pastor. Term of office shall be two years, with three members to be appointed each successive year. Committee members will hold no other elected office in the congregation during their term. The Vice-President will be a non-voting member, but will serve as liaison to the Congregation Council.

The duties of the Mutual Ministry Committee are to:

a.         Assist the Pastor(s) and other paid staff in establishing priorities, in strengthening his/her emotional stability, and in improving interpersonal skills.

b.         Assist the Pastor(s) and other paid staff in his/her professional growth.

c.         Provide support for continuing education for improving and updating all skills on a regular basis.

d.         Develop instruments and establish a program for regular evaluation of the Pastor(s) ministry, the leadership of the Congregation Council, and support of the congregation.

e.         Work jointly with the Pastor(s) to provide a more effective ministry to the congregation and the community.

  1. Perform other duties and responsibilities agreed upon by the Pastor(s) and committee.

Worship and Music Committee

The Worship and Music Committee is responsible for overseeing the worship life of the congregation. The duties of the committee include:

a.         Planning worship services. The committee works with the Pastor(s) in planning and publicizing congregation worship for the church year.

b.         Worship education. The committee will give attention to the whole area of worship education in the parish and develop strategies that will increase the congregation's awareness of the meaning and dynamics of worship.

c.         To recruit and provide training for assisting ministers, acolytes, ushers, greeters, altar guilds, choirs, and other musicians.

d.         To purchase and maintain parish instruments and worship supplies.

e.         To provide adequate nursery facilities and personnel for worship services.

Christian Education Committee

The Christian Education Committee is responsible to develop, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of congregational Christian educational ministry. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To develop programs which serve the purposes of educational ministry and meet the needs and interest of the congregation's membership.

b.         To select material resources for use in Christian educational ministry programs.

c.         To recruit and train leaders for educational ministry.

d.         To regularly review and evaluate the educational ministry.

e.         To coordinate programs, time schedules, and leadership development, to provide variety in program opportunities, and to maintain a balance in the content and direction of such programs.

f.          To plan and carry out ministries for the youth of the congregation.

Witness Committee

The Witness Committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising specific parish witness ministries designed to reach others for Christ. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To expand the congregation's vision of evangelism opportunities and challenges and develop an overall witness strategy for the congregation.

b.         To promote education for evangelism among adults, youth, and children.

c.         To coordinate and guide the Shepherding program.

d.         To plan, coordinate, and supervise programs for the inactive and unchurched.

e.         To suggest ways of aiding active members in strengthening their faith and loyalties.

f.          To study and interpret community trends and needs

g.         To provide for recruitment and training of parish callers.

h.         To maintain a potential membership file in cooperation with the Pastor(s).

i.          To coordinate and guide the Prayer Chain.

Social Ministry Committee

The Social Ministry Committee is responsible for guiding the parish activities in areas of social concern. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To help develop and strengthen a supportive congregational climate in which social ministry can happen.

b.         To analyze and study needs within the congregation as well as within the community the congregation serves.

c.         To promote and guide the development of parish social ministry projects.

d.         To stimulate youth and adult study programs in areas of social concern .

e.         To recommend appropriate social action to the congregation as a whole.

f.          To act as a social conscience of the congregation.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee is responsible for leading the members of this congregation to higher levels of proportionate giving of their Time, Talent, and Treasure for the Lord’s work. The Treasurer and the Financial Secretary are members of this committee. Their duties and responsibilities appear in Chapter 11, Paragraph B11.01.01 and Chapter 12 of this constitution. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To practice personal stewardship and to lead by example.

b.         To plan a year-round stewardship program.

c.         To recommend stewardship policy to the Congregation Council.

d.         To make provisions for stewardship education.

e.         To provide a full and complete interpretation of mission and money.

f.          To prepare and present to the congregation a program proposal.

g.         To plan and carry out the Every Member Response.

h.         To maintain a program to discover and use the individual talents God has given each member of the congregation.

i.          Upon completion of the Every Member Response, to provide information to the Finance and Budget Committee for budget preparation.

Property Committee

The Property Committee is responsible for the planning, administration, repair, inventory, replacement, protection, and use of all church property for the congregation. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To oversee the care, protection, repair, maintenance, and decoration of all church property.

b.         To supervise the purchase and installation of all new equipment, including all congregation-owned or leased vehicles.

c.         To employ and supervise custodians, gardeners, and all contract help on terms approved by the Congregation Council.

d.         To maintain records of all plans, specifications, guarantees, insurance coverage, inventories, leases, contracts, and agreements forms as well as the maintenance, repair, and replacement schedules.

e.         To provide members of the congregation with suggestions for approved memorials or gifts such as paintings, furniture, art windows, furnishings, musical instruments, equipment, etc. This service is carried on in consultation with other congregational committees and units particularly in terms of needs and gifts.

f.          To maintain an annual record of the appraised value of the property and equipment.

g.         To provide leadership for long-range planning in building and ground improvements.

h.         To maintain a schedule of church facility usage by church groups and outside groups.

Fellowship Committee

The Fellowship Committee is responsible to plan, supervise, and implement social activities for the congregation. The duties of the committee include:

a.         To coordinate regularly scheduled events that focus attention on the major aspects of the congregation's work.

b.         To coordinate activities within the congregation's facilities and maintain and advertise a monthly schedule of such events.

c.         To plan, coordinate, and supervise fellowship programs for all age groups of the congregation.

d.         To work in cooperation with other committees and groups of the congregation where and when required.

Finance and Budget Committee

The Finance and Budget Committee is responsible for financial management and budget preparation for the congregation. The Treasurer and the Financial Secretary are permanent members of this committee. The duties of the committee include the following:

a.         To receive reports of budget needs to support the various congregational ministries from appropriate parish committees and groups. These inputs are to be summarized and a budget prepared for the next year. This budget is to be presented to the Executive Committee for budget review prior to approval first by the Council and then the congregation.

b.         To provide financial management advice and oversight of expenditures and to report on financial and budgetary matters to the Council and the congregation.
